Are you ready for some football?

Football season is upon us, and despite year after year demonstrating that predicting the NFL is like doing something that's really really difficult to do we must predict the entire NFL season in the hopes that if any fraction of these predictions are right we can herald ourselves as geniuses.

Gailon commentary:

These kinds of predictions are ridiculous but fun and this is my first year attempting something in writing that I can go back and look at. Because this is so hard to predict I just went with my gut in each division predicting quickly based on how I felt, but looking back I feel alright with the predictions. I have some teams lower than I would have expected, like the Packers, but in the moment it just felt right to me.

I'm Brilliant . . .
. . . for picking the Lions to go to the playoffs. It's bold, but I believe it can happen. Martz is gone and the running game will be excellent, opening up the field for two fantastic receivers and a QB who will improve his TD/INT ratio from last year (when it was horrible) because defenses won't be able to sit back on pass for every play.

I'm Crazy . . .
. . . for picking the Raiders and the Texans to place second in their divisions. What was I thinking? I believe in these teams and I like these teams but the Raiders have an unproven quarterback who needs more time to develop and the Texans running back situation can only be described as dire.

He's Brilliant . . .
. . . for picking the Bills and Broncos as the AFC wildcard berths. These are two teams that are easily forgotten but who will consistently exceed expectations this year. The Bills are filled with talent and if their coaching can be up to par this year they will finally emerge as a contender while the Broncos' young quarterback should make significant steps this year.

He's Crazy . . .
. . . for picking the Eagles to win the NFC East. This is the only division where one team is picked to win it by one of us and be in last place by the other. Sure, the Eagles have fantastic talent at the skill positions but skill positions don't win football games and the Eagles have a consistent track record of under performing expectations which I blame on poor support players and coaching. Combine that with their key players coming off of injury last year and this team will chalk up another disappointing year.
